Ben Knutson

Ben applies comprehensive experience in commercial real estate finance to maximize recoveries for clients. He employs analytical techniques to evaluate stakeholder positions and craft solutions tailored for each asset.

Ben’s expertise spans loan restructurings & modifications, foreclosure/REO sales, receiver sales, loan assumptions, forbearances, note sales, and DPO’s. He has applied workout strategies to a diverse array of capital structures, including Agency, Conduit-CMBS, CLO and SASB products. Ben is a seasoned underwriter with a strong credit background encompassing advanced cash flow modeling, net present value (NPV) analysis, income and expense evaluation, property inspections, market trend assessments, and the interpretation of third-party reports across multifamily, office, retail, industrial, and hospitality assets nationwide.

Prior to joining Stapleton Group, Ben served as an Asset Manager within KeyBank Real Estate Capital’s Special Servicing Group in Dallas, TX. In that role, he oversaw a high-value portfolio of distressed CMBS loans and underwrote more than $4 billion in UPB across newly issued securitized loans. Working closely with Senior Management, Ben led the Special Servicing team’s business development efforts, helping to grow its portfolio to $240 billion and establishing KeyBank as the largest Special Servicer in the market.
